How about a topic about Broadband Issues.
Some of us lucky few can get broadband (only at a speed of 512kbps), but I have heard (rumour control) that half of the estate can't get it at all.
Also like in my instance I was told I couldn't get broadband because I lived to far away from Huntingdon telephone exchange. But after BT head office getting involved strangely I got it in the end.
It would be of benefit for people to know what areas of the estate are getting broadband and which areas cannot.
Will we ever get fibre to the home or even to the cabinet (faster speeds) or will we be left behind in this new interactive age (for at least the next 20 years anyway)? "Maybe this community is not important enough or will not be financially viable".

We have broadband, but it does drop out occasionally. I know the people 3 doors down from us cannot get it though - they are on a different exchange apparently!

We have broadband, when we first got it, it was quick and good. Only 3 months after we went live it turned very slow. According to sky we live far from the exchange...which I dont understand as it was all fine, dandy and fast when we first got it.

Glen who are you with? I live in St Ives at the moment and mine has slowed down too. It is not as quick as it used to be, my provider is BT, they tried to get me to upgrade from the white wireless to there new black wireles box, before my contract was up! could this be something to do with it?

Michelle what speed are you getting with the 3G dongle.
I am with BT with my fixed line broadband, I am now getting speeds from 1mb to 2mb, I used to get a steady 512kb. Seems that BT must be trying to upgrade are poor broadband telephone lines. It would be nice if one day Wyton get Fibre Optic Cable (wishful thinking).
I use the thinkbroadband speed tester to get a accurate speed test.

Thinkbroadband a very useful website for information on broadband, they have set up a website to report your slow internet speed to build up a map of the UK of bad broadband areas. See link below
http://www.broadband-notspot.org.uk/coverage-map.html#14,52.34320525579807,-0.1105499267578125,all,2
If everybody reports there broadband speed it will show industry what broadband we get and hopefully we will get something done.
Only today on the news the goverment as said that everybody in the UK will be paying 50p a month on there fixed phone line charge to pay for better broadband for everyone (ie 2mbps speed) hopefully in the future fibre to the cabinet or home!!!!!! Edited by The_Jezster - 16 Jun 2009 at 10:22pm |

Hi Michelle I am with BT as they were the only ones that could offer me broadband.
Currently my speed is 448kbps which is very slow and annoying considering I have to pay for the 2mb service!!1
